After being here for just five months, I can’t imagine not having taken the opportunity to join this amazing community. I have witnessed different teaching styles from around the world which has allowed me to learn and improve as a teacher. GEMS CIK is continually making improvements that benefit staff and our students. I am so grateful that GEMS CIK goes above and beyond to make you feel safe and welcome.
Teaching at GEMS CIK is a great experience. I was pleasantly surprised with the many resources available to teachers and students. The returning staff work collaboratively to make sure that new teachers have a smooth transition thus providing a sense of community. This school truly cares about the success and well-being of its students and teachers that is reflected on a daily basis
This is my second year at GEMS CIK and have just signed a two-year contract extension, and I am happy to call this place home. The students here are unlike any other. They are the kindest and most hard-working group I have encountered in my teaching career. They make coming to work every day so worth it. The school is very welcoming and goes above and beyond to take care of their staff. Kampala is a great place to be as well, the locals are so warm and welcoming. There is always an adventure nearby.
As a first-timer in Uganda, I am still in awe of the help and support of the fine people who work here who I have had the pleasure of meeting. I am blown away by the sincere kindness, generosity and compassion that this school community has shown me and by the respect and care everyone shows to one another. I feel welcomed and valued within this community and I feel safe, secure and not wanting of anything. I am incredibly happy, proud and thankful to work here and I look forward to coming to work every day. This experience has been amazing
At GEMS Kampala (CIK) we believe that it is our duty as teachers to ensure that children in our care receive the highest possible standards of teaching so that every child can fulfill their unique potential and embrace lifelong learning. We also aim to develop our students’ personality and character to be a real asset to the community and to the world. We believe that children learn best through enjoyable, engaging experience through real life, meaningful contexts. This together with our curriculum which is child-centred, local community sensitive and most importantly taking into account the holistic approach to child development so that by the end of their Primary school education they become citizens with positive values and a strong moral compass
I came to GEMS CIK as Director of Music but had the opportunity of a swift promotion to Head of Faculty for the Creative Arts and Head of Sixth Form, both roles that I was enthusiastic to take on and fulfil. GEMS CIK has supported me grow in my new roles. I am proud of what I have achieved so far and look forward to seeing how we continue to develop in these areas.
I joined GEMS CIK as an unqualified primary music teacher. Whilst with GEMS CIK, I completed my iPGCE through Nottingham University and with that qualification, I saw myself grow as a teacher which allowed me to offer more to my students. GEMS CIK gave me the opportunity and platform to achieve all my goals.
